Korean Rip off

Boy were we surprise when Robbin and I received an email from a Korean advertising creative last week. He's seen our Google Fashion Show ad that we did at W+K Tokyo and pointed us towards this fabulously bad rip off by a beverage company in Korea.

Our spot:

And below's the new spot from Korea:

I guess we should feel flattered? And our cast was much cuter.

My first TV ad

Our first TV advert is on air now and shown across national TV in Japan. It's for Google Image Search.

My first TV shooting

Many months and many concepts has gone by in Tokyo with only little bits of pieces coming through. Finally one of our scripts is approved and we've been shooting a little 30 second television commercial for Google last week. We're now entering editing madness and listening to tons of music. The schedule is very tight and we expect the commercial to air in two weeks already on japanese TV.

Bring it to life

The new ad from Guinness drops the 'Good thing come to those who wait' line and introduces 'Bring it to life'. I don't know about the strategy, it's seem more generic than the previous one, but maybe I'm missing a point. Yet the ad itself and the storytelling within it is stunning. By AMV/BBDO London.

Droga5 goodness

I like this Puma spot from Droga5. It's super fresh and a lot of fun to watch.

Trophy heads

One of our readers, Alfred, just pointed out this Superbowl ad.

Making us happy to see that there are other people out there thinking about what's on the other side of a trophy head. Watch Jai the horseman, as we shot it on placement at W+K London. We really should have made it much shorter, right?

Le Publivores

Last week we went to The Night of the Ad Eaters. 6 hours of ads in a cinema with entertainment in between. We didn't stand the whole night, we might have, but at times the ad selection was way to random.

We reckon the IPA just used the french real, as for 20 minutes they had ads running with Paris as a location – zero idea and zero fun, mostly. Now if that would have been London it might have been more appealing right? Overall it was a good night, there were some pretty wicked ads that were fun to watch on the big screen with a non forgiving crowd that applauded the good stuff. Have a look at some of the spots that stood out, they are nicely assembled by Seventy Seven. Thanks for saying hi, Luke & Co. I think I also spotted Mike&Phil in the crowds?

Shoe Circus

We were really surprised when Microsoft handed over their advertising account to Crispin Porter + Bogusky earlier this year. But it made sense! If there is one ad agency who can help them it must sure be CP+B, right? They had to make Microsoft cool – that's a mother of a brief. The campaign had to be better than those uber good 'Mac vs PC' commercials from TBWA.

Of course Crispins offices are full of Macs, I bet every single creative loves them – and now they have to make ads for Microsoft. Tough job. A couple of days ago they released the first TV advert. It's starring Bill Gates & Jerry Seinfeld, have a look:

I couldn't wait too see Crispin goodness and was disappointed by this average mix of celebrity power and no idea spot. Am I missing something? Maybe the follow ups are gonna rock the show? I'd so love to see Microsoft becoming cool with Crispins help. Their greatest challenge so far.

Music Almighty

Just a quick one, Nokia's new Music Almighty ads broke a couple of days ago. They were done by Fabian and Ida, really nice work, must have been great fun to make.

It's 4th of July nutty at W+K at the moment, old Americana tunes being pumped through the agency tannoy. Yeehaa.

Honda Ad *Live*

Yesterday evening at 8.10pm Honda and Channel4 broad casted a live advert. We understand it's not the first live commercial in TV history, but it's bloody great. It fits very well in the rest of the Honda Accord campaign Difficult is Worth Doing. The 'real' advert, also about skydiving formations, will break this Sunday. We're curious what W+K has up their sleeves.

Tarako!*#

Welcome to random red wednesday. Strangely we're both wearing red today, and fortunately we found these ridiculously awesome odd japanese commercials. They are showing how Tarako's Kewpie Pasta Sauce is invading the planet with their red dolls. Sticky music, great casting and fabulous costumes from the 50's give those videos a crazy spin way beyond quirkiness. We love them, we would die to see stuff like this running in the UK. Tarako!

Another one

Looks very much like Fallon likes the 14th of April, two strikes on one day. Don't think we'll get that track out of our heads today. This new Budweiser spot is directed by Harmony Korine, it's the second spot for him, the first one was already gorgeous (Thorntons 'Stuck') and one of our favourites from last year. Creative Kudos to John Allison and Chris Bovill for this great choice and spot.

Sony Foam City

Fallon's spoiling us, the waiting has ended. We do like the Sony spot way more than the Cadbury Trucks commercial.

Thorntons 'Stuck'

I found a wonderful ad yesterday on bestadsontv (very much worth signing up, it's free now). I was blown away, such a simple idea, executed so elegantly. I love the look of the child's face while he thinks. I haven't been fascinated about an ad for a long time.
I am with this one.

Watch it here, on bestadsontv, the quality is far superior to youtube. Done by creative team Tom Ewart & Dave Sullivan from SHOP London, does anyone know anything about this place? First time I hear about it. The spot is directed by Harmony Korine, who's most notable for his screenplay for Kids, at the age of 19.
