After W+K

Five weeks go by fast. Too fast. Wieden+Kennedy was a fantastic place to be. We’ve got some good work produced and met some really friendly people on the way. Before we started we had heard how committed and positive WKers were supposed to be towards their work, it was true. In fact most the rumors we had heard were true – Amazing amazing amazing office. Friendly people. All about the work. Long hours. More Nike than at Nike Town. Pushing for work simply for the sake that it hasn’t been done before. No glass walls or closed doors.

One we’d like to add is the enormous amount of all staffers that are sent, approximately one every 10mins we’d say. ‘can I borrow a Nokia charger pretty please?’, ‘come get, brownies at reception’, ‘anyone remember the name of that guy on bbc1 last night, you know, white hair, big ears, kinda funny, probably cute when he was younger?’. We even got one from Dan Wieden (Jai is gonna nail this one on his wall).

A place we’d love to be but it’s not our time yet, however it’s not a dream we’ll be giving up anytime soon. All we can do is say a big thanks to W+K. What's next? We'll see. For now you can find us on the streets in various cafés around town, working on our book and other stuff.

Wal, When you going to TBWA? There's a CD job avaliable. This could be your break?!

Anonymous said...

They'll get hired because they're foreign, any money!

big boo to wiedens for not posting on you guys. your blog was practically all about them for the last month. you'll be alright guys, better luck next time.

Wondered when the summary would be up -

Nice effort guys I'm sure you'll work your way back there one day - if you want to.

Enjoyed the pictures too.

Well done boys. Sounded like a wicked experience. You'll be able to get a placement at any agency in town now, it'll work psychological wonders for you...then all you need to do is seal the deal, which is the easy part ;)

Well done guys, been reading up on your journey through the creative world.

All I can say is chin up there are a million great agencies to work for in this business W&K aren't the only big boys in town.

We even got one from Dan Wieden (Jai is gonna nail this one on his wall).

This has to be the gayest thing to ever appear on your post, and that's saying something.

Truly hideous!

we're fanboys, W+K groupies, so that's all cool with us.

TBWA is lined up for the first of September, but they don't have an ECD so very very low chances of getting hired there. mid of September there's an option of going to Adam&Eve which might be more fruitful. They are looking for a junior team. Thoughts?

by the looks of things the only thing A&E are looking for is cheap labour for a year and more account men...good luck!

People on Scamp have expressed their thoughts about Adam&Eve

Personally, you won't know until you get in there. Because it's small and new, hopefully you'll be on big things. Just make sure you get something for your book.

All sounds like a madwicked time. Agree it's harsh for W&K not to post about you, 'specially after a post about the new placement team. Maybe you both need to become pretty girls.
On to even bigger and better things eh?

were is wally from then? its not like he's british is it?

sick of this they only got hired because their...girls/foriegn/good looking/connected/big/small/mean/scary

bottom line is you get hired if you're good and if you not then you won't or you'll get sacked, stop making excuses for yourselves

Well done lads. What's this all about them not posting about you? I'm out the loop. Time to move on to another agency, and as someone stated, you should be fine landing your first job.

Guys take any job/placement at any half decent agency, including Adam & Eve. Get the experience, get work out, move onto your next place. Many will disagree with that, but it's a good way to learn and move up the ranks.
You'll get to W+K if you want to.

Sorry guys not sure if I was clear there, I meant get a job anywhere (within reason), get work out and move on, even if it's not your ideal place.

Oh and one other thing, while you're there, get under the skin of the agency, get involved with as much stuff as possible, make yourselves a vital cog to the agency, talk to people, go for beers with them, at very least you'll make some friends and very useful contacts.

Jeeze could you guys arse lick them a little more???

Get a job anywhere and work your way up, you don't want to start at W+K, the only way is down.

I think the new placement team getting a picture on welcome to optimism has more to do with Neil being away on holiday and Stu running the blog at the moment.

I know WK well and it's all pretty simple really; WK believes in the idea, so if you write good ideas then your kept on and they'll stretch you more, if you have a bad run of ideas or difficult briefs then you leave.

It's not about being foreign, girls, a son of someone, having a crazy clothes collection, running a blog or looks.

If you write ads that the CD's don't buy your not doing your job. That's why people have left and others have stayed on.

WK plays up to the crazy philosophy because it helps to make great work, but that’s how you get a job there and keep a job there.
By creating bloody good work over and over again.
